Most people consider Edinburgh to be one of the most haunted places in Europe probably because it has seen a lot of bloodshed and torture, mostly happening in the walls of the famous Edinburgh castle. Those who have visited the castle often complain that they feel as if they are pulled or touched while others have said that they have noticed a sudden drop in the temperature, feelings of despair or terror and bizarre lights and strange mists.

The Tower of London, England

The Tower of London is also considered to be one of the creepiest places in England. Because of the history of torture and execution, visitors who have visited this place often tell that they have experienced paranormal activities such as ghosts of two mysterious children and headless body of Anne Boleyn walking the tower grounds.

Raynham Hall, Norfolk, United Kingdom

Raynham Hall is famously known as a haunted hall by the “brown lady” who is often seen in brown brocade dress. The story of the Brown Lady is such that she had an affair with Lord Wharton, after which her husband Townshend locked her in one of the rooms in Raynham Hall. She died there and it is said that this is one of the reasons why her soul is often seen to haunt the castle till date. The Brown Lady has been spotted by many visitors.

Akershus Fortress, Oslo, Norway

The Akershus Fortress is believed to be one of the most haunting places in Oslo. Initially, the fortress served as a defense structure for the city but later turned into a prison where many prisoners died during their imprisonment in the last 18th and 19th century. During the World War 2, Nazis also held the castle and many executions were done here. Many people say that anyone who approached Malcanaise, the demon dog, will suffer a horrible death within three months.

Poveglia Island, Italy

The small island of Poveglia in Italy is one such place where the locals do not dare to go there and the fishermen refuse to catch fishes in the surrounding waters mainly because they fear that they might pull up dead bodies. During the bubonic plague outbreak, the island became a quarantine colony where many people were sent to die there. The sickly bodies were then burnt on the giant pyres. Today, the island is abandoned and many strange things have happened every since. Often, voices and screams are heard by the visitor which is why nobody stays here for long.

The Haunted Vicarage, Borgvattnet, Sweden

The Haunted Vicarage was built in 1876 and the first haunted reporting that came from here occurred in 1927. The first incident that took place here was that the person who resided here saw his laundry being torn from the clothesline from an unseen force. The Haunted Vicarage is today a restaurant / café where one gets a special certificate if they stay overnight.
