Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380 can be considered as two giants manufactured by different airline companies. You might be interested in getting to know about the differences that exist in between these two airplanes and figuring out which one is the best. Mentioned below are some of the key differences that will make you able to discover in Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380.

Capacity

As mentioned earlier, both Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380 are two giant flights. As a result, they are in a position to accommodate a large number of passengers when compared to the other flights. Boeing 747-8 has got the ability to accommodate up to 467 passengers at a time. These passengers are being distributed among three different classes named First Class, Business Class and Economy Class. When it comes to the passenger capacity, Airbus 380 beats Boeing 747-8. That’s because the Airbus 380 has got the ability to accommodate up to 525 passengers. The three class configuration can be found in Airbus as well. Due to the enhanced capacity, Airbus 380 is facing a risk as well. That’s because the airlines will not be able to fill in all the seats at a given journey. But it is clear that Airbus is definitely a winner in terms of capacity as it can accommodate a higher number of passengers when compared to Boeing 747-8. \

Cabin width and length

Next, let’s focus on the space available within the flight. The internal cabin width of Airbus 380 is 6.54 meters whereas the cabin width of Boeing 747-8 is just 6.1 meters. As you can see, there is a clear difference in the cabin width as well. The Boeing 747-8 shares the same cabin width as of its predecessor. However, the length of Boeing 747-8 has been increased by 18.3 feet. As a result, it is in a position to accommodate 51 additional passengers. However, Airbus 380 has a higher cabin width and it has contributed a lot towards the improved passenger capacity. If you take a look at the length of these two flights, you will figure out that Airbus 380 is shorter when compared to Boeing 747-8. In fact, Airbus 380 has a length of 72.72 meters where as Boeing 747-8 has a length of 76 meters. However, Airbus 380 provides more cabin space because of its enhanced width. Therefore, the passenger capacity that it can accommodate is higher as well.

Fuel efficiency

We have seen a lot of debates taking place over the fuel efficiency of Airbus and Boeing. Hence, it is quite interesting to compare the fuel efficiency of these two flights. The average per seat fuel efficiency of Airbus 380 is 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers. On the other hand, Boeing 747-8 has got a per seat fuel efficiency of 2.8 liters per 100 kilometers. As you can see, there is no much difference in between the fuel efficiency of these two flights. Both companies have been focusing a lot on improving the fuel efficiency of their flights in the recent past. That’s because the fuel efficiency was in a position to create a tremendous impact on their sales. Therefore, it is not possible to determine a winner out of these two options by only taking fuel efficiency into consideration.

Wing span

If you take a look at the wing span of Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380, you will be able to figure out some significant differences. In fact, the wing span of Boeing 747-8 is 68.5 meters whereas the wingspan of Airbus 380 is 37.75 meters. Therefore, it is clear that Airbus is the winner in terms of wing span. The new design of Boeing has improved the performance levels of the flight. It has been able to reduce the noise levels in the meantime as well. Therefore, Boeing 747-8 has been able to reduce the weight by going forward with a shorter wing span. On the other hand, the designers of Airbus 380 have introduced a unique and a new wing design to the flight. It comes along with aluminum made alloys. As a result, the overall weight has been reduced, even if the wing span is higher. Therefore, Airbus 380 has been able to achieve optimum fuel efficiency as well.

Range and cruising speeds

Both Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380 have been designed to cover up long hauls. That’s the main reason why they are being called as trans-continental flights. In fact, these flights are often being used for covering long journeys, such as from Hong Kong to New York. The nautical miles range of Airbus 380 is relatively higher when compared to Boeing 747-8. In other words, Airbus 380 offers a range of 8,300 nautical miles, whereas Boeing 747-8 offers only a range of 8,000 nautical miles. But when you take a look at the long haul journeys, you will figure out that this is not a major issue. It is important to take a look at the cruising speed as well in order to determine the winner out of these two options. The average cruising speed of Airbus 380 is 0.85 Mach whereas the average cruising speed of Boeing 747-8 is 0.855 Mach. Therefore, Airbus should be the winner in this category.

Price

Last but not least, you need to focus on the price of Boeing 747-8 and Airbus 380. Airbus flights have often been expensive. In other words, the Airbus 380 is marked at a price tag of $375.3 million, whereas the Boeing 747-8 is marked at a price tag of $317.5 million. However, it is important to keep in mind that this is an average price and it can vary based on the engine and customizations. But for the airlines that purchase flights in bulk, there is a consideration in the price.
